Alan Marshall, BVMS., MRCVS.
Alan was born and raised in Glasgow and attended primary and secondary school in Milngavie then onto Glasgow Vet School to qualify as a vet in 1981.
His first job was for a year in the Highlands in Craigellachie, before moving to Dumfries and joining the practice, then called Allison, Murchie and Dickson. In 1989 the practice evolved into The Bard Veterinary Group, and he joined the new partnership. Alan says "I liked the practice, the people and the area so much, I haven't moved since!"
Alan is also involved with the Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre.
In his spare time (and there never seems enough), he enjoys family life, gardening, and running. He also enjoys country sports. His dogs usually keep him company, doing what they like most.
Peter Lean, BVM&S., BSc., MRCVS.
Peter qualified at Edinburgh in 1990. He spent 2.5 years in a predominantly farm animal practice in Stranraer, joining the Bard in 1993. He is a keen sportsman, enjoying squash, tennis, skiing and canoeing, and was a champion at the rather unusual sport of axe throwing.
Peter along with Hugh form the backbone of our Large animal practice.

As well as routine procedures in farm and companion species, he has particular interest in the areas of dermatology and small animal medicine.
Originally from Hawick in the Borders, David and his young family now live near Dumfries and spend a lot of their time exploring the local area through their various outdoor pursuits.
Alison Cox BVMS, MRCVS (Vet, Assistant)
A farmers daughter, Alison qualified from Glasgow University in 2006. After working in mixed practice in South Wales and Annan she began work here in early 2010. He then started his own practice in Dalbeattie before joining up with friend and colleague, Hugh Dickson in Dumfries. Together with Alan Marshall they formed the Bard Veterinary Group in 1989.
He has been a keen sports-person all his life playing cricket and squash at Dumfries. He now has a keen interest in photography. Since May 2010 Roger has started to work part time in the practice.
Laura Lammie, BVMS., MRCVS.
Laura graduated in July 1988. After graduation, spent 1 year in New Zealand travelling and working in mixed practice (including deer and penguins!). On return to UK worked in mixed practice on Isle of Man for 2 years before finally settling here in Dumfries.
Laura says " After 6 years as a full time vet here, I moved to part-time work to allow more time with my family. Nowadays, I mostly work with small animals, but still get a little practice with farm work at home on the farm"
Becca Haugen joined the practice in 2009. She has become a familiar face in the practice and forms an integral part of our increasing small animal team. Like Laura she has a young family to take care of and works part-time in the practice.
Hugh Dickson, MVB., MRCVS.
Hugh retired as senior partner from the practice at the end of September 2011. He would like to thank all the clients and many friends he has had the pleasure of working with over his many years at the Bard. He originally qualified in Dublin in 1972 and started working in mixed practice in Appleby-in-Westmorland.
After 5 years he moved on practicing in Lockerbie, Limerick, Cork, and Wolsingham in Weardale before joining Colin Allison and Ken Murchie in Dumfries in 1979.
Hugh says “I feel very lucky to be able to live and work in this beautiful rural setting in Dumfriesshire”
In his spare time Hugh enjoys country sports, gardening, curling, diving and skiing.
“I have a flat coated retriever which enjoys taking me out over the local hills whatever the weather”
